Mooneyes "Christmas in July" A Huge Success at Irwindale Dragstrip. AJ Nocita back behind the wheel of the BG Oil Chevelle.

Last December's Mooneyes event at Irwindale Dragstrip was about as wet and rainy as it could be. Many hardcore fans and racers tried hanging out til the bitter end in hopes that the weather would break and the event could go on as planned. It wasn't meant to be. So Mooneyes owner, Chico Kodama, rescheduled the event and created "Christmas in July" and what an event it was. There was something for everyone in the way of hot rods, rat rods, a swap meet, vendors of all kinds, exhibition cars, F/X cars, jet cars, nitro burning cacklefest cars...I think you get the picture. Since the number of race cars was limited, everyone got as many hits as they wanted which is something that rarely happens. The day went off without a hitch and all the Mooneyes staff should be congratulated for a job well done.

It was also great having AJ Nocita back behind the wheel of the BG Oil Products '64 Chevelle. Even though it had been almost a year since he'd been in the driver's seat, he picked up right where he'd left off and never missed a beat all day. Nice job, AJ!

The highlight of the day came when our good friend "Ernie the Attorney" went to the finals in the highly competitive A/FX class with his 1966 Ford Fairlane and took the win. Ernie and his Ford performed well all day and were the class of the field by far. Congratulations to Ernie and all of his crew for a job well done.

cacklefest felt like being back in 1966.

After so many years of putting other people

in Bob's car, "The Wynn's Spoiler," I finally got to

take the seat for the start up. I wasn't alone in the

car...I know I had Elvis in there with me! Thanks, Bob!!

had an issue and couldn't get to the starting line.

The car is always a crowd favorite whether on the

track or in the pits. It's always "Tuna Time!"

The "S & P 60!"....years, that is. Scott and Patti Kendig double the fun as both celebrate 60th birthdays at AREA 51..

When a husband and wife are turning 60 within days of each other there really isn't much else to do but throw yourselves a party. And that's exactly what Scott and Patti Kendig decided to do along with 90 or so of their family and friends. With the dj spinnin', "The Hoister Bar" flowin' and the dance floor rockin' it was "on the mat" all night as Scott and Patti made sure that their guests wanted for nothing. TangorrAmore' put out an Italian spread that would have pleased The Godfather while Scott made sure that everyone made an appearance on the dance floor. The birthday boy and girl proved that 60 IS the new 40! No slowin' down for these crazy kids! Happy Birthday S & P! We had a blast!

"Code Blue!" Dave Bakey turns 50! Family and friends celebrate at AREA 51.

Dave Bakey isn't the easiest guy in the world to surprise. In fact, the "Code Blue" theme for his party applied more to his wife, daughter and friends trying to pull off the 50th birthday surprise party. Right up until the end, Dave was planning his OWN birthday party at a nearby restaurant and inviting friends...the same friends that were already coming to his party at AREA 51! With the precision of an FBI undercover mission, his wife Vicky and daughter Stephanie were able to make it happen and the birthday boy got the surprise of his life. Once inside, it was time to party...and time for his wife and daughter to relax and enjoy all their hard work. From the signature "Code Blue" birthday cocktail to the birthday cake done up to look like Dave's Porsche, it was an evening full of laughter and surprises. Bob Hansen brought out his nostalgia top fuel dragster and "lit the candles" in a big way for Dave...with Dave in the seat! Happy Birthday, Dave, and we hope the party we had for you was as good as the one you had planned for yourself!!
